Steve Jobs To Tawkon: “No Interest” In Your Phone Radiation Measurement App

I see you driving ’round town with an app that measures cellular radiation, and I’m like, “no interest”.

Apple head honcho Steve Jobs has made it abundantly clear that Tawkon‘s phone radiation measurement application is not welcome on its official App Store, pushing the startup to make it available for free (for jailbroken iPhones) through Cydia instead.

Tawkon sent a courteous email to Jobs in the hopes of gaining approval for distribution of the application through Apple’s App Store, only to receive a characteristically curt response back:

No interest.

Steve Jobs ranked as the 110th richest person with $8.3 billion, Zuckerberg gets the 52nd

Apple's CEO Steve Jobs is ranked as the world's 110th richest person with net worth of $8.3 billion according to Forbes annual list. Last year, Jobs' net worth was up from $5.5 billion and 136th place so I think he made a great milestone in one year.

It'd be interesting if we take a look at Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg wealth which is with net worth of $13.5 billion. Zuckerberg is ranked as the 52nd richest person in the world.

For those who wants to know more, Mexican telecommunications tycoon Carlos Slim Helu holds the top spot in the list followed by Microsoft founder Bill gates with net worth of $74 billion and $56 billion respectively.

Steve Jobs may Have Just 6 Weeks to Live

As you know that Steve Jobs took another medical leave of absence earlier this year without expected return date. National Enquirer has published some photos showing Steve Jobs while going to breakfast with his wife before going to the Stanford Cancer Center in California.

It says that Steve Jobs now is in a terminal condition and that no more than 6 weeks of life. Anyway there is noting to do but hope that these news aren't true.

Steve Jobs Takes Medical Leave of Absence from Apple

Earlier today, Jobs — who also took a leave during the first half of 2009 for what was later revealed to be a liver transplant — sent the following e-mail to his staff according to a statement release by Apple:

Apple-Steve-Jobs_t300

Team,
At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.
I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve Jobs: MobileMe Will Get a Lot Better in 2011

Here comes another one of Steve Job's emails! The news comes from an unnamed MacRumors reader that reports that the reader has contacted Steve Job about MobileMe.
The reader asked:
Q: I love my iPad and iPhone4 and am a huge fan of yours and all that Apple does. I desperately want to stay inside of Apple’e ecosystem as much as possible.

However, MobileMe is making it very difficult for me to do so. Unreliable/unpredictable syncing, creating duplicate entries (sometimes scores of them), etc. It’s almost unusable.

And I know from forums (including Apple’s own support boards) that I am not the only one experiencing these very real and frustrating problems.

Please tell me it will get better, and soon?
Our lovely Jobs said:
A: Yes, it will get a lot better in 2011.

Sent from my iPhone

Could this possibly mean new features in MobileMe? Could this possibly be a new style and touch to the new MobileMe in 2011? Let's wait and see. [via RazorianFly]

Steve Jobs "Hopes" More AirPlay Features Next Year!

According to MacRumors, one of the readers emailed Steve Jobs if Apple was ever going to enable Airplay to stream videos from third party apps and Safari Pages. Surprisingly, Steve Jobs replied back!
Q: Hi, I recently updated both my iPhone 4 and iPad to 4.2. I think my favourite feature is airplay. This is seriously amazing and makes sharing content seamless. I just purchased Apple TV and was wondering are you ever going to make airplay video work for videos in safari and 3rd party apps? I hope to get a response. :)

A: Yep, hope to add these features to Airplay in 2011.
Airplay is the technology introduced in iOS 42 that lets users stream content from their iOS devices with iOS 4.2.1 to an Apple TV. Currently, Airplay can only be functional on Youtube, photos, and video apps that were part of the iOS but it has been extended to all apps thanks to AirVideoEnabler. It is assumed that Steve will be improving upon AirPlay in the new future.

Even though Airplay doesn't support third party apps, jailbroken device can stream content to other iOS devices or from iTunes if they are on the same network.

Why Apple is Called Apple?

Did you ask yourself, why Apple is called Apple? , you can know the answer in the below video, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak explains origins of the name which all traces back to Steve Jobs’ days at the orchards in Oregon and even connects to Dancing with the Stars, as 9to5mac describes.

Playboy Posts Interview with 29-Year-Old Steve Jobs from 1985

Playboy has released it's interview with Apple's CEO Steve Jobs by David Sheff which was originally published on February 01, 1985. Here's some highlights noted by CultOfMac below.
On getting his head shaved by a holy man
Jobs: … I was walking around in the Himalayas and I stumbled onto this thing that turned out to be a religious festival. There was a baba, a holy man, who was the holy man of this particular festival, with his large group of followers. I could smell good food. I hadn’t been fortunate enough to smell good food for a long time, so I wandered up to pay my respects and eat some lunch.
For some reason, this baba, upon seeing me sitting there eating, immediately walked over to me and sat down and burst out laughing. He didn’t speak much English and I spoke a little Hindi, but he tried to carry on a conversation and he was just rolling on the ground with laughter. Then he grabbed my arm and took me up this mountain trail. It was a little funny, because here were hundreds of Indians who had traveled for thousands of miles to hang out with this guy for ten seconds and I stumble in for something to eat and he’s dragging me up this mountain path.
We get to the top of this mountain half an hour later and there’s this little well and pond at the top of this mountain, and he dunks my head in the water and pulls out a razor from his pocket and starts to shave my head. I’m completely stunned. I’m 19 years old, in a foreign country, up in the Himalayas, and here is this bizarre Indian baba who has just dragged me away from the rest of the crowd, shaving my head atop this mountain peak. I’m still not sure why he did it.

His supervisor at HP’s favorite thing
Playboy: You went to work for Hewlett-Packard. How did that happen?
Jobs: When I was 12 or 13, I wanted to build something and I needed some parts, so I picked up the phone and called Bill Hewlett–he was listed in the Palo Alto phone book. He answered the phone and he was real nice. He chatted with me for, like, 20 minutes. He didn’t know me at all, but he ended up giving me some parts and he got me a job that summer working at Hewlett-Packard on the line, assembling frequency counters. Assembling may be too strong. I was putting in screws. It didn’t matter; I was in heaven.
I remember my first day, expressing my complete enthusiasm and bliss at being at Hewlett-Packard for the summer to my supervisor, a guy named Chris, telling him that my favorite thing in the whole world was electronics. I asked him what his favorite thing to do was and he looked at me and said, “To fuck!” [Laughs] I learned a lot that summer.

On growing apart from Steve Wozniak
Playboy: What happened to the partnership as time went on?
Jobs: The main thing was that Woz was never really interested in Apple as a company. He was just sort of interested in getting the Apple II on a printed circuit board so he could have one and be able to carry it to his computer club without having the wires break on the way. He had done that and decided to go on to other things. He had other ideas.
PB: Such as the US Festival rock concert and computer show, where he lost something like $10,000,000.
Jobs: Well, I thought the US Festival was a little crazy, but Woz believed very strongly in it.
PB: How is it between the two of you now?
Jobs: When you work with somebody that close and you go through experiences like the ones we went through, there’s a bond in life. Whatever hassles you have, there is a bond. And even though he may not be your best friend as time goes on, there’s still something that transcends even friendship, in a way. Woz is living his own life now. He hasn’t been around Apple for about five years. But what he did will go down in history. He’s going around speaking to a lot of computer events now. He likes that.

Jobs on the mouse
Playboy: Most computers use key strokes to enter instructions, but Macintosh replaces many of them with something called a mouse–a little box that is rolled around on your desk and guides a pointer on your computer screen. It’s a big change for people used to keyboards. Why the mouse?
Jobs: If I want to tell you there is a spot on your shirt, I’m not going to do it linguistically: “There’s a spot on your shirt 14 centimeters down from the collar and three centimeters to the left of your button.” If you have a spot–”There!” [He points]–I’ll point to it. Pointing is a metaphor we all know. We’ve done a lot of studies and tests on that, and it’s much faster to do all kinds of functions, such as cutting and pasting, with a mouse, so it’s not only easier to use but more efficient.

Wishing he could price a Mac at $1,000
Playboy: That’s what critics charge you with: hooking the enthusiasts with premium prices, then turning around and lowering your prices to catch the rest of the market.
Jobs: That’s simply untrue. As soon as we can lower prices, we do. It’s true that our computers are less expensive today than they were a few years ago, or even last year. But that’s also true of the IBM PC. Our goal is to get computers out to tens of millions of people, and the cheaper we can make them, the easier it’s going to be to do that. I’d love it if Macintosh cost $1000.

On quality and motivation
Playboy: Does it take insane people to make insanely great things?
Jobs: Actually, making an insanely great product has a lot to do with the process of making the product, how you learn things and adopt new ideas and throw out old ideas. But, yeah, the people who made Mac are sort of on the edge.
Playboy: What’s the difference between the people who have insanely great ideas and the people who pull off those insanely great ideas?
Jobs: Let me compare it with IBM. How come the Mac group produced Mac and the people at IBM produced the PCjr? We think the Mac will sell zillions, but we didn’t build Mac for anybody else. We built it for ourselves. We were the group of people who were going to judge whether it was great or not. We weren’t going to go out and do market research. We just wanted to build the best thing we could build. When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through.
Playboy: Are you saying that the people who made the PCjr don’t have that kind of pride in the product?
Jobs: If they did, they wouldn’t have turned out the PCjr. It seems clear to me that they were designing that on the basis of market research for a specific market segment, for a specific demographic type of customer, and they hoped that if they built this, lots of people would buy them and they’d make lots of money. Those are different motivations. The people in the Mac group wanted to build the greatest computer that has ever been seen.

Why IBM was like Frito-Lay
Jobs: Look at this example: Frito-Lay is a very interesting company. They call on more than half a million accounts a week. There’s a Frito-Lay rack in each store, and the chips are all there, and every store’s got the identical rack and the big ones have multiples. For Frito-Lay, the biggest problem is stale product–bad chips, so to speak. For Frito-Lay’s service, they’ve got, like, 10,000 guys who run around and take out the stale product and replace it with good product. They talk to the manager of that department and they make sure everything’s fine. Because of that service and support, they now have more than an 80 percent share of every segment of chips that they’re in. Nobody else can break into that. As long as they keep doing what they do well, nobody else can get 80 percent of the market share, because they can’t get the sales and support staff. They can’t get it because they can’t afford it. They can’t afford it because they don’t have 80 percent of the market share. It’s catch-22. Nobody will ever be able to break into their franchise.
Frito-Lay doesn’t have to innovate very much. They just watch all the little chip companies come out with something new, study it for a year, and a year or two years later they come out with their own, service and support it to death, and they’ve got 80 percent of the market share of the new product a year later.
IBM is playing exactly the same game. If you look at the mainframe market place, there’s been virtually zero innovation since IBM got dominant control of that market place 15 years ago. They are going to do the same thing in every other sector of the computer market place if they can get away with it. The IBM PC fundamentally brought no new technology to the industry at all. It was just repackaging and slight extension of Apple II technology, and they want it all. They absolutely want it all.
This market place is coming down to the two of us, whether we like it or not. I don’t particularly like it, but it’s coming down to Apple and IBM.

On being a terror in third grade
Playboy: The valley your parents moved to has since come to be known as Silicon Valley. What was it like growing up there?
Jobs: It was the suburbs. It was like most suburbs in the U.S.: I grew up on a block with lots of kids. My mother taught me to read before I went to school, so I was pretty bored in school, and I turned into a little terror. You should have seen us in third grade. We basically destroyed our teacher. We would let snakes loose in the classroom and explode bombs. Things changed in the fourth grade, though. One of the saints in my life is this woman named Imogene Hill, who was a fourth-grade teacher who taught this advanced class. She got hip to my whole situation in about a month and kindled a passion in me for learning things. I learned more that year than I think I learned in any year in school. They wanted to put me in high school after that year, but my parents very wisely wouldn’t let them.

On being horrified the Apple II was used to target nuclear weapons
Playboy: And you think computers will help in that process.
Jobs: Well, I’ll tell you a story. I saw a video tape that we weren’t supposed to see. It was prepared for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. By watching the tape, we discovered that, at least as of a few years ago, every tactical nuclear weapon in Europe manned by U.S. personnel was targeted by an Apple II computer. Now, we didn’t sell computers to the military; they went out and bought them at a dealer’s, I guess. But it didn’t make us feel good to know that our computers were being used to target nuclear weapons in Europe. The only bright side of it was that at least they weren’t [Radio Shack] TRS-80s! Thank God for that.
The point is that tools are always going to be used for certain things we don’t find personally pleasing. And it’s ultimately the wisdom of people, not the tools themselves, that is going to determine whether or not these things are used in positive, productive ways.

On living life as an artist rather than a businessman
Jobs: … I’ll always stay connected with Apple. I hope that throughout my life I’ll sort of have the thread of my life and the thread of Apple weave in and out of each other, like a tapestry. There may be a few years when I’m not there, but I’ll always come back. And that’s what I may try to do. The key thing to remember about me is that I’m still a student. I’m still in boot camp. If anyone is reading any of my thoughts, I’d keep that in mind. Don’t take it all too seriously. If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you’ve done and whoever you were and throw them away. What are we, anyway? Most of what we think we are is just a collection of likes and dislikes, habits, patterns. At the core of what we are is our values, and what decisions and actions we make reflect those values. That is why it’s hard doing interviews and being visible: As you are growing and changing, the more the outside world tries to reinforce an image of you that it thinks you are, the harder it is to continue to be an artist, which is why a lot of times, artists have to go, “Bye. I have to go. I’m going crazy and I’m getting out of here.” And they go and hibernate somewhere. Maybe later they re-emerge a little differently.

On philanthropy
Playboy: What does the money actually mean to you?
Jobs: I still don’t understand it. It’s a large responsibility to have more than you can spend in your lifetime–and I feel I have to spend it. If you die, you certainly don’t want to leave a large amount to your children. It will just ruin their lives. And if you die without kids, it will all go to the Government. Almost everyone would think that he could invest the money back into humanity in a much more astute way than the Government could. The challenges are to figure out how to live with it and to reinvest it back into the world, which means either giving it away or using it to express your concerns or values.
PB: So what do you do?
Jobs: That’s a part of my life that I like to keep private. When I have some time, I’m going to start a public foundation. I do some things privately now.
PB: You could spend all of your time disbursing your money.
Jobs: Oh, you have to. I’m convinced that to give away a dollar effectively is harder than to make a dollar.

On turning 30
Playboy: Do you know what you want to do with the rest of this lifetime?
Jobs: There’s an old Hindu saying that comes into my mind occasionally: “For the first 30 years of your life, you make your habits. For the last 30 years of your life, your habits make you.” As I’m going to be 30 in February, the thought has crossed my mind.

Steve Wozniak Misquoted 'Almost every app that I have is better on the iPhone'

Earlier today we posted that Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple has been interviewed and quoted that "Android phones have more features" which would help Google's OS become the dominant smartphone platform and will be the winner of smartphone wars, Wozniak is now trying to walk back his comments a little bit.
According to Engadget, he says he'd "never" say that Android was better than iOS, and that "Almost every app I have is better on the iPhone." He also notes about Android:
to be a lot like Windows... I'm not trying to put Android down, but I'm not suggesting it's better than iOS by any stretch of the imagination. But it can get greater marketshare and still be crappy.
You can listen to what he said, courtesy of Engadget:

Steve Wozniak: Android will be the Dominant Smartphone OS

Steve Wozniak, Apple's co-founder today said that the Android will be the dominant smartphone platform. Le's hope Steve Jobs won't kick his co-founder for this.

The guy revealed in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that Apple had co-developed a phone that was just amazing with “a well-known Japanese consumer electronics company in 2004″.
Wozniak said in the interview that he believes Google’s Android platform will become the dominant mobile OS over time, rather than Apple’s iPhone. He likens Android’s success to that of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, along with the flaws and challenges of that model

Other words has been said by Woz about the quality of the iPhone:
The iPhone has very few weak points. There are no serious complaints or issues. When it comes to quality, the iPhone leads the way.

At the end of the interview, Wozniak also commented on Nokia slamming it as a “brand from a previous generation”. He suggested Nokia should launch a new brand specifically for youngsters. [via Engadget]

You can see in the pictures below a 24-inch screen showing Jobs' son on the screen. Lots of things to learn from this guy, he is one of America’s self-made billionaires, and thanks TNW for spotting this.

Steve Jobs' Personal Call with iPad Developer

Let's imagine, you are developer, you spend quality hours making a quality app, you submit it to the App Store, then..... they reject it and you are so pissed off that so you send back a flaming email. After a few hours, Steve rings you up to solve your problem.
The same thing happened to Ram Arumugam, a Seattle based app developer. So Mr. Ram here, made an iPad app named "Economy for iPad", which he obviously sent it for approval. But, the Apple genius rejects the app because he hadn't used some of the public API's provided by Apple to solve a keyboard issue. Ram Arumugam was angry so he sent an email to Apple to vent out his anger. Just after 2 hours, Steve called Ram up to sort out the problem and make him an happy Dev.
"I was very surprised," Ram told the paper. "I was not even sure whether he would have time to read the e-mail." The outcome of the conversation, however, resulted in Ram's app finally getting into the App Store. It took a conversation with Jobs to get Ram to drop the troublesome code. Subsequently, we now the privilege of checking out the $2.99 app that caused such a raucous. For Ram, of course, the ordeal was worth it. The dev was happy to report that his economic stat-filled app is now the top selling paid app in the finance category of the iPad App Store.
That really nice of you Steve! So what do you guys think? [via ModMyi, SeattleTimes]

Steve Jobs: White iPhone 4 will be Available for Christmas [Update 1x]

Two months ago, Apple announced that they delayed the White iPhone 4 launch till the end of 2010, this was due to color issues, antenna issues and more. We are just three months away from the end of 2010, so Christmas would be the best time for White iPhone 4 launch?
iDB reader Nathan sent Steve this email:
Hello Steve, My name is Nathan, I’m a high school student from San Bernardino. I also happen to be one of your biggest fan and a total Apple fanboy and proud to be. I’ve been saving up money to buy the new iphone 4. I want the white one but Apple said it won’t be available until later this year. I know you must be asked this question hundreds of times a day but do you think we can expect to get the white iphone for xmas?
I hope you can answer. Thank you Steve
Steve Jobs replies from his iPhone:
Christmas is later this year.

Sent from my iPhone
Of course this may be not real source as it's unverified mail, we can't trust the source but at least we can get the hopes up as sounds very likely. We will keep informed, stay tuned!

You can take a look on our iPhone 4 Activity Section, and Also check our iPad Activity Section for more news and posts.

Update 1: The mail you saw above is completely FAKE. as the user who submitted the report to the blogs, has publicly admitted and had created everything as a kind of "joke". He also apologized because he never imagined this result.
Therefore we can say that there are no official news about the launching date for the white iPhone, but Apple has always said that the device would be released in late 2010, so we still expected we will see it in Christmas or may be earlier.

Oh, Remember Steve Jobs Conversion that was a Fake, It's REAL?

Do you remember that Conversion with Steve Jobs and Tom from Boy Genius Report. After Apple said it's a fake and Steve Jobs didn't do such a conversion, Now Boy Genius Report says that Steve Jobs email wasn't fake and it was real, they have proves and they got a perfect post!

Here's a good part in the post:
On to the Steve Jobs emails.
Jason Burford, someone who we have never worked with in the past, emailed us and said that he had a pretty interesting email conversation with Steve Jobs and wanted to share it with us, but wanted to be compensated. He sent us the email headers and we had some of our independent tech guys verify the email header information and then inform us whether they were legitimate. Their response was yes, that they were legitimate, and that the entire thread would be extremely hard to fake, if not impossible. After speaking with Jason and getting more background, I decided to run that story. There was an error in my write up where the last line in the article was written to be said by Steve Jobs, when in fact it was Jason who emailed that in reply to Steve Jobs.
Another good part:
Let’s go over it one more time… someone who wanted to remain 100% anonymous and only asked to be paid a nominal fee of a couple hundred dollars lied and completely made up this entire thing? Someone who showed me in his AT&T call records more than two calls from Apple representatives (Texas phone numbers, confirmed to be Apple Customer Relations) on the exact dates he said they called trying to resolve the situation after he had emailed Steve Jobs? Someone who repeatedly emailed me and the BGR staff to correct the last line in my story since it wasn’t accurate? Someone who has now had his name revealed to the public via a tasteless article from AppleInsider, and is now being called by reporters non-stop asking about this article and whether his exchange is true or not? They still wouldn’t admit this was fake? No, you know why? Because it wasn’t fake.
Hey, they got the real proofs there on their post, check the full post with title "The entire Steve Jobs email story… It’s real" from BGR here. Stay tuned for more news!

Apple PR Confirms that This Email Exchange between "Jobs" and "Tom" was a Fake!

You all sure heard about it, but I didn't want to write about this Email conversion between one of readers of BGR and Steve Jobs because it seemed like a fake! Now Apple PR (Press Release) Confirms that this Email Exchange between Tom and Steve Jobs where they talked about Reception problems in iPhone 4 is a just a big fake!
A lot of sites and blogs talked about this conversion [Check here] So Apple PR says that this Exchange is a fake espically the part Jobs saying "Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it."
Asked on the record whether Steve Jobs was the author of any or all of these statements, a top Apple spokesman emphatically denied it.
