Jailbreak Verizon iPhone 4 Possible with SHAtter or Limera1n?

Interesting question to ask! Will the newly released Verizon iPhone 4 be jailbreakable? Well well well, Apple should fix death grip issues in the new Verizon iPhone 4 and to do this, it should port redesigned antenna system so that it works on CDMA network.

As most of you know, Limera1n exploit by iPhone hacker George Hotz can jailbreak any iOS device with the current bootrom so if Verizon iPhone 4 has the same current bootrom of iPhone 4, limera1n can be used to jailbreak it.

However, if the bootrom is different, Chronic Dev Team have their own exploit known as SHAtter which was saved in case if Apple changed the bootrom.

In brief, either Verizon iPhone 4 carries the current bootrom or new bootrom, it'll be absolutely jailbroken once it ships to the hackers. Stay tuned for more information as it comes !

All Jailbreak and Unlock Guides for iPhone, iPod and iPad

The last few weeks we got three jailbreak tools for iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G, 2G and iOS 3.2.2 on iPad (i.e. Limera1n, GreenPois0n and PwnageTool), in addition to the presence of other jailbreak tools for all several iOSs, all this has led a confusion among iDevices users, so I decided to collect all iOSs, jailbreak guides and unlock guides for all existing iDevices in one article. Check them after the jump.

GeoHot has Another Untethered Exploit for Future Jailbreak of 5th Generation Devices

You may be wondering why did GeoHot used comex's exploit to make his popular tool Limera1n untethered. Well, comex, has answered this question! The real answer is that GeoHot used comex's exploit not because he don't have untethered exploit but because he don't want to waste another bootrom exploit. That indicates that this exploit will be used to make SHAtter untethered exploit.
comex: @esemede he would have implemented his own untether, but that would be wasting an exploit

MuscleNerd: (translating that retweet of @comex: geohot has an iboot-level untethered exploit but held it back to conserve exploits)
So with Geohot's bootrom exploit, SHAtter exploit and comex's hacks, we can see that future jailbreak for iPhone 5 and iPad 2 will be easy and safe. Also, stay tuned for new PwangeTool version to hit the shelves soon.

HOW TO: Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 4G / 3G on Mac

We already broke the news and told you that Geohot with the help of some hackers could write Limera1n's code to work on Mac OS X. In case you don't know how to use the most easiest tool to jailbreak your iOS device, here's full step by step how to guide to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and iOS 3.2.2 on iPad.

NOTE: If you are using Ultrasn0w to unlock your carrier, then don't use the instructions below as the unlock for new basebands is not available yet. For iPhone 4 users, use the instructions posted here to preserve your baseband. For other devices, wait for PwnageTool to be released this weekend.

STEP 1: Download Limera1n for Mac OS X from here.

STEP 2: Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB then launch Limera1n and hit “make it ra1n”
STEP 3: You will have to get your device into DFU mode by following the steps on the screen shown by Limera1n.
  • You iPhone will now be placed in recovery mode.
  • Press both the power and the home buttons.
  • When Limera1n asks you to, release the power button.
  • Your phone will now be in DFU mode
STEP 4: You should see a message like this indicates that your devices has been jailbroken successfully.
STEP 6: Now start Limera1n app from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and install Cydia as shown in the screenshots below.

STEP 7: Now simply restart your device and enjoy the jailbreak!

Limera1n and GreenPois0n: Let's Clean Out What's Going on!

I received a lot of comments and questions about the new jailbreak tools for iOS 4.1 so I decided to write this post to clear out what's going on in the jailbreak community, what tool should you use, and which is better?. Let's make it clear, GreenPois0n was scheduled to be launched last Sunday but Geohot came up with his Limera1n last Saturday to mess up the jailbreak community.
For people wondering about the difference between iBoot and bootrom exploits, Geohot found this vulnerability a while ago when both iBoot and bootrom contained the code that made them vulnerable. Apple noticed that iBoot contained a bad code so they fixed it in iBoot not in bootrom. Geohot noticed that Apple will fix bootrom exploit in the next generation devices by full hardware revision so he made the right decision by releasing Limera1n tool before Chornic Dev Team. Just to save SHAtter exploit for 5th-generation devices as iPhone 5 or iPad 2.

You may say, "Why didn't Geohot save his exploit for 5th-generation devices?". Well, Geohot's exploit works on all devices not as SHAtter which works on A4 devices only, so it was better to release Limera1n and save SHAtter.

Now, GreenPois0n & Limera1n tools are both based on the same exploit, so there's not any difference in both the tools, don't ask me which is better? I prefer using Limera1n but in case you faced some errors so go ahead and try GreenPois0n.

For people asking about Mac OS X version of both tools, there will be a Mac version of GreenPois0n but not in Limera1n as Geohot's site claims it will be available in 7 years (blah!). Also, iPhone Dev Team is working on PwnageTool for Mac OS X coming out this Sunday (as usual) and will support Apple TV.

Unlock? No, there's no unlock yet for baseband 05.14 and 02.10 and will not be before iOS 4.2 final release which is scheduled early in November. Hackers as Sherif Hashim has mostly finished the hard steps and MuscleNerd confirmed that ultrasn0w update will be available after iOS 4.2 release. So, for all iPhone 3GS, 3G unlockers, stay away from upgrading to iOS 4.2 (iPhone 4, use this guide) or you will not be able to unlock except after at least one month.
