HOW TO: Enable AirPrint on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G

As most of you know, AirPrint may be the most interesting feature in the newly released iOS 4.2.1 that allows you to print documents and files directly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. But not all devices will be able to enjoy this function, so we will show you how to enable AirPrint on non-supported devices as iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G.

STEP 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b3 (Windows - Mac OS X).

STEP 2: Download iOS 4.2.1 original firmware from here.

STEP 3: Connect your device into your computer via USB and launch Redsn0w you download in step 1. Click on browse and point it to the original iOS 4.2.1 firmware of your device and wait while it's recognized.
STEP 4: Now you have to check on Enable Multitasking, other items are optional.
STEP 5: Put your iPhone into DFU mode by following the instructions on the screen:
  • Hold down the Power button for 5 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold Home buttons together for 10 seconds.
  • Now release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for 15 seconds.
STEP 6: Once done, your iPhone will be rebooted and you'll get AirPrint on iPhone 3G ad iPod touch 2G.

From now on, when you open a page in Safari, you'll see the Print button by clicking on the share icon at the bottom. With this option, you can set how many copies of documents you want to copy. You have to select the printer (must be one of the 11 supported printers) and hit Print.
In case your printer is not supported by Apple, you can download and install Printopia to enable AirPrint on non-supported printers. [iPhoneItalia]

Download Greenpois0n to Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.1 and iPad on iOS 3.2.2

After waiting for a month, the all-in-one untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.1 and iOS 3.2.2 is finally here. Available for Windows, Mac and Linux – GreenPois0n is USB-based one click app, like Blackra1n and Spirit which can jailbreak (not unlock) iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.1, and iPad on iOS 3.2.2. Other devices are not supported in the tool.

Greenpois0n supports the following devices:
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch (4th Generation)
  • iPod touch (3rd Generation)
  • iPad
For those of you who don’t know, GreenPois0n is based on a low-level bootrom exploit used by Geohot in Limera1n tool which Apple won't be able to patch with a new iOS firmware; instead, they will have to introduce a new hardware for the current devices to close the loophole. That means all existing 4th-generation devices now can be jailbroken forever thanks to GreenPois0n! We will be back with quick how-to guides soon, stay tuned for that !!

Redsn0w 0.9.6 for Windows to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3g Has been Released

Dev-Team has just released a fresh beta version of redsn0w version 0.9.6 b1 for Windows, which allows users to jailbreak iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G on iOS 4.1. The same tool for Mac is already existing as we reported you the last few weeks.
The Dev-Team warned who use ultrasn0w to unlock their devices, to stay away from redsn0w, and wait for PwnageTool to support iOS 4.1. that is because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple, if you do that you will lose the ultrasn0w unlock.

This BETA release supports:
  • iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only (for now)
  • Mac OS X x86 and Windows only (for now)
  • 4.1 or 4.0 firmware from Apple
Note: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your 4.1 jailbreak will be tethered…sorry! (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)

Any Windows users seeing “Waiting for reboot” for too long (more than 20 seconds or so), please try “shaking” the JB process by unplugging then replugging your USB cable (while letting redsn0w continue to run). Also, try using a USB port “closer” to your computer (as opposed to on your monitor or behind another hub). We’re still tweaking the Windows flow and so any feedback you can provide will help!
As usual we will prepare the how to guide to jailbreak your iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G for Windows shortly, Stay tuned.

Update 1: Now you can check our guide to jailbreak your iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G with Redsn0w 0.9.6b1 for windows, Guide posted here.

In meantime, you can use our guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G using Sn0wbreeze on Windows and our guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone 3G on Mac. Wait for other jailbreak tools to be out soon.

iPod Touch 2G (MC Model) Pwned for Ever

Pod2g the guy behind the SHAtter exploit which will be used with Greenpois0n to create the new iOS 4.1 jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad, has discovered a new exploit that will pwn iPod touch 2G for ever, the new exploit called usb_control_msg(0xA1, 1) exploit. This is the fourth exploit discovered by Pod2G, really he is talented guy.

The new exploit technicality is complicated to understand through regular users, you can check this in the quote below to see how it works.
A heap overflow exists in the iPod touch 2G (both old and new) bootrom’s DFU Mode when sending a USB control message of request type 0xA1, request 0×1.

On newer devices, the same USB message triggers a double free() when the image upload is marked as finished, also rebooting the device (but that’s not exploitable because the double free() happens in a row). posixninja analyzed and explained this one.
You also have to know that the new exploit will also be used in the upcoming Sn0wbreeze 2.0, to jailbreak iPod touch 2G (MC Models) for ever.
Looks like sb2 will have otb support for ipt2g MC models too! :) thx @pod2g
@jonnyboywashere this exploit is only in the ipt2g, thats why pod2g published it on the wiki
Any way, we can sum up that the new exploit will pwn iPod touch 2G (MC Model) for ever. [via redmondpie & The iPhone Wiki]

All You Need to Know before Updating to iOS 4.1

iOS 4.1 should be released sometime this week (may be Wednesday?) and we will inform you whenever iOS 4.1 is released. Before you rush and click on the update button in iTunes, read this article carefully, we are covering a few steps you want to go through to get ready for upgrading to iOS 4.1. We are showing Compatible devices, What's new, Notes for jailbrokers, and more!
Well, I will start with a 10 minutes video from TiPb showing a quick walkthrough for all features in iOS 4.1 including Game Center, HDR Photos, HD Video upload via Wi-Fi, Bug fixes as proximity sensor and how to use this features. check it below
Now after you watched the video, You have to know that it's not confirmed yet that iOS 4.1 will be released tomorrow, but also remember that Steve Jobs announced with iOS 4.1 coming Next Week from last Wedensday, The official software update page was scheduled to be launched September 8th but pulled back to Coming Soon.

    Jailbroken? Think again!
Well, If your device is jailbroken and unlock on iOS 4.0.1 / 4.0, then you have to think again and again! If you upgraded to iOS 4.1 you will totally lose this jailbreak and unlock until Comex released his userland jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

Also iOS 4.1 updates the baseband, and remember that the baseband can't be downgraded for all devices except iPhone 4 as Notcom protected iPhone 4's baseband (more details posted here)

Now, all what you can do is to Save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.0.2 by following the guide posted here and don't upgrade except you don't need the unlock provided but Ultrasn0w or you are on iPhone 4.

    Update to iTunes 10 NOW
To be able to get all the features of iOS 4.1, you will need iTunes 10 to use Ping social networking features which was announced last week by Jobs in his annual musical event. You can get iTunes 10 from here.

If you didn't like iTunes 10 icon, you can use the guide posted here to change iTunes 10 icon to iTunes 9 icon. Also if you got some crashes with iTunes 10, follow the guide posted here to downgrade back to iTunes 9.2.1.

    Check your Device Compatibility
iPhone 4 gets all the features and full update. iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G can upgrade to iOS 4.1 without HDR Photos and HD Youtube uploads. But Will Scratch made HDR Photos possible for jailbroken iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G (more details posted here)

iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only gets bug fixes and better performance for iPhone 3G (details posted here), No Game Center, No HDR Photos, No HD video uploads.

    Backup Your Data
Once you have installed iTunes 10 on your Computer, connect you device (iPhone / iPod) and sync it even it's jailbroken (it's safe). After synchronization completed, Back up your data to your Windows/Mac library by right clicking on the iPhone icon and click "Backup". Backing up your data saves anything on your device including contacts, photos, videos, purchased apps and everything.

    Before You Leave
It seems like we covered all the you need to know! But if we missed something or you got any tips hope you jump to the comment section below and share it with us! Now, if you have done all the steps above and you are ready for the update, Stay tuned with us either on Twitter or on Facebook and we will post it in the minute it's released.
