Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 GM on iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G and iPod touch 4G, 3G with Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 [Guide]

Today we broke the news about the release of iOS 4.2.1 GM for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G and iPad. Now you can use Redsn0w 0.9.6b2 to jailbreak all these iOS devices. Moreover I have collected the direct download links for iOS 4.2.1 GM to all above mentioned devices.

You have to note that Cydia doesn't work till now due to some issues on the private APIs used by Cyida which has been changed by Apple. Bud don't worry the developers has fixed these issues and it is only a matter of time as they are waiting for the iOS 4.2.1 public release. For now you can install jailbroken-apps via SSH - until we got the new Cydia version - as you have full root access on your iOS device.

STEP 1: Download redsn0w 0.9.6b2,  iOS 4.2.1 GM and iOS 4.1 final version for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 4G, 3G (download links at the end).

STEP 2: Update to 4.2.1 GM firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes.

STEP 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b2,  and Browse for iOS 4.1 firmware final version (NOT iOS 4.2.1 GM).

STEP 4: Select "Install Cydia" and click on Next
STEP 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
STEP 6: At this stage you will need to put your iPhone in DFU mode by holding “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

STEP 7: You will Get a Jailbroken Device on the latest iOS 4.2.1 GM as soon as the process ends.

NOTE: If you have an unlocked iDevice with ultrasn0w, you have to stay away from Redsn0w, as it updates your baseband to latest version, which is still unlockable till now.

Untethered Jailbreak Guaranteed for All Future Firmwares on iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, iPad and Apple TV 2G

Good news for all A4 users (i.e. iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, iPad and Apple TV 2G users) as MuscleNerd has just surprised us by releasing a very important news. He mentioned that the Dev-team have figured out a combination between PwnageTool, limera1n and Comex untethered hacks, this combination will be able to make untethered jailbreaks for all above mentioned devices on all future firmwares.
Think we’ve figured out a way to extend PwnageTool+limera1n+@comex hacks to untethered JBs for all future A4 firmwares :)
Thanks Dev-team for hard work and the guarantee of having untethered jailbreaks for life time. So that Apple will not be able to patch them if it did not upgrade its A4's hardware. We did not catch more news but we let you informed with all immediate updates, Stay tuned.

    Unlock Baseband 05.14.02 / 2.10.4 After iOS 4.2 [CONFIRMED]

After you have enjoyed your jailbreak with lime flavor by limera1n jailbreak on iPhone 4/3GS , iPod touch 4G/3G and iPad on iOS 4.0/4.1 and 3.2.2, most of you are asking eagerly about the unlock for basebands 5.14.02 and 2.10.4, today we have a significant progress on this matter, as Sherif Hashim has just sent a tweet announcing that he succeeded on 1st step on both sides.
since nearly all my received tweets ask about both BB, I can report very early "initial" 1st step success on both sides, calmed down? :)
A new exploitable baseband crash has been found. An unlock will very likely be released after iOS 4.2 and will unlock both BB's of 4.1 & 4.2
And now Veeence is mentioning the discovery of new exploitable baseband crash, and confirming again about ETA for the unlock which is very likely be released after iOS 4.2 official release by November, so that it will be able to unlock both basebands of iOS 4.1 and 4.2.

In the meantime, you can update to iOS 4.1 with preserving your baseband using TinyUmbrella, see guide posted here, and then you have to follow our guide to jailbreak your iPhone 4 and 3GS on iOS 4.1 using limera1n jailbreak in this post. Now you will be able to unlock your iPhone 4/3GS using ultrasn0w.

UPDATE 1: MuscleNerd has just confirmed that unlock for baseband 05.14.02 and 2.10.4 will be released after iOS 4.2 release in a simple tweet:

Steve Jobs: White iPhone 4 will be Available for Christmas [Update 1x]

Two months ago, Apple announced that they delayed the White iPhone 4 launch till the end of 2010, this was due to color issues, antenna issues and more. We are just three months away from the end of 2010, so Christmas would be the best time for White iPhone 4 launch?
iDB reader Nathan sent Steve this email:
Hello Steve, My name is Nathan, I’m a high school student from San Bernardino. I also happen to be one of your biggest fan and a total Apple fanboy and proud to be. I’ve been saving up money to buy the new iphone 4. I want the white one but Apple said it won’t be available until later this year. I know you must be asked this question hundreds of times a day but do you think we can expect to get the white iphone for xmas?
I hope you can answer. Thank you Steve
Steve Jobs replies from his iPhone:
    Christmas is later this year.

    Sent from my iPhone
Of course this may be not real source as it's unverified mail, we can't trust the source but at least we can get the hopes up as sounds very likely. We will keep informed, stay tuned!

You can take a look on our iPhone 4 Activity Section, and Also check our iPad Activity Section for more news and posts.

Update 1: The mail you saw above is completely FAKE. as the user who submitted the report to the blogs, has publicly admitted and had created everything as a kind of "joke". He also apologized because he never imagined this result.
Therefore we can say that there are no official news about the launching date for the white iPhone, but Apple has always said that the device would be released in late 2010, so we still expected we will see it in Christmas or may be earlier.

FaceTime Call on 55" Screen, It's Really AWESOME [Video]

Guys over iSpazio wanted to give us something special, they made a FaceTime video call on a 55" TV screen. The tweak used to allows you to see everything that happens on our iPhone directly into the TV screen is "DisplayOut" which is available in Cydia via BigBoss repo for $1.99, but you have to use VGA cable to connect your iPhone and your TV together.
I was really surprised while watching the video so I decided to post this video to share it with my users. Although it's kind of expensive and impractical, it's very nice and exciting. By the way, while watching the video, don't listen to them, they are talking Italian ;)

    GreenPois0n to Jailbreak iPhone 4, iOS 4.1?

Now, here’s an interesting piece of news coming from pod2g. Remember GreenPois0n jailbreak tool for iPad which was never released from p0sixninja, GreenPois0n will be back again to jailbreak iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad. Pod2g has hinted that he used the tool build by p0sixninja by running it on iPhone 4 and it works well.
Hey, @p0sixninja 's epic greenpois0n works well on iPhone 4G ! (need to work on the framebuffer code tho ! )
Greenpois0n jailbreak tool will be used as toolkit here alongside the latest bootrom exploit (SHAtter) by pod2g. This will save loads of time and cuts in jailbreak development of iOS 4.1 to half as Will Strafach points:
remember when we said greenpois0n would come to use later as a toolkit? using it to create this jailbreak is cutting our workload in half (or maybe more). that's why pod mentioned it.
It's not confirmed that the next jailbreak will be named GreenPois0n but at least the same code will be used to build the tool. Hackers are currently working hard to make the releases sooner than later, as usual, we will keep you informed by any updates about the tool.

This time, we could get our hands on a more detailed speed test in a video between iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G again. You can check the speed of running various applications and games.
It seems pretty cool, right? The same is the same, no can deny this although that sometimes iPod touch wins and sometimes iPhone wins. What I can say at the end, iPod touch 4G is pretty cool and thinner! [via iSpazio]

iPhone 4 VS iPod touch 4G in a Speed Test

Guys over TechnoBuffalo has posted a video showing iPhone 4 VS iPod touch 4G in a hot speed test. As it was noticed before that iPod touch 4G don't carry the same retina display as iPhone 4, also iPod touch 4G has 256MB RAM while iPhone 4 has 512MB RAM. Will this make a big deference? Let's see.
Despite the difference between iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G's RAMs but thanks to the new A4 processor, iPod touch 4G performs well. The difference will appear when you a huge load comes over there, (say opening a lot of games / apps and using Multitasking, this will be faster in iPHone 4). Also the browser speed tests are very similar, sometimes iPod touch wins. [via iSpazio]

All You Need to Know before Updating to iOS 4.1

iOS 4.1 should be released sometime this week (may be Wednesday?) and we will inform you whenever iOS 4.1 is released. Before you rush and click on the update button in iTunes, read this article carefully, we are covering a few steps you want to go through to get ready for upgrading to iOS 4.1. We are showing Compatible devices, What's new, Notes for jailbrokers, and more!
Well, I will start with a 10 minutes video from TiPb showing a quick walkthrough for all features in iOS 4.1 including Game Center, HDR Photos, HD Video upload via Wi-Fi, Bug fixes as proximity sensor and how to use this features. check it below
Now after you watched the video, You have to know that it's not confirmed yet that iOS 4.1 will be released tomorrow, but also remember that Steve Jobs announced with iOS 4.1 coming Next Week from last Wedensday, The official software update page was scheduled to be launched September 8th but pulled back to Coming Soon.

    Jailbroken? Think again!
Well, If your device is jailbroken and unlock on iOS 4.0.1 / 4.0, then you have to think again and again! If you upgraded to iOS 4.1 you will totally lose this jailbreak and unlock until Comex released his userland jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

Also iOS 4.1 updates the baseband, and remember that the baseband can't be downgraded for all devices except iPhone 4 as Notcom protected iPhone 4's baseband (more details posted here)

Now, all what you can do is to Save SHSH blobs of iOS 4.0.2 by following the guide posted here and don't upgrade except you don't need the unlock provided but Ultrasn0w or you are on iPhone 4.

    Update to iTunes 10 NOW
To be able to get all the features of iOS 4.1, you will need iTunes 10 to use Ping social networking features which was announced last week by Jobs in his annual musical event. You can get iTunes 10 from here.

If you didn't like iTunes 10 icon, you can use the guide posted here to change iTunes 10 icon to iTunes 9 icon. Also if you got some crashes with iTunes 10, follow the guide posted here to downgrade back to iTunes 9.2.1.

    Check your Device Compatibility
iPhone 4 gets all the features and full update. iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G can upgrade to iOS 4.1 without HDR Photos and HD Youtube uploads. But Will Scratch made HDR Photos possible for jailbroken iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G (more details posted here)

iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only gets bug fixes and better performance for iPhone 3G (details posted here), No Game Center, No HDR Photos, No HD video uploads.

    Backup Your Data
Once you have installed iTunes 10 on your Computer, connect you device (iPhone / iPod) and sync it even it's jailbroken (it's safe). After synchronization completed, Back up your data to your Windows/Mac library by right clicking on the iPhone icon and click "Backup". Backing up your data saves anything on your device including contacts, photos, videos, purchased apps and everything.

    Before You Leave
It seems like we covered all the you need to know! But if we missed something or you got any tips hope you jump to the comment section below and share it with us! Now, if you have done all the steps above and you are ready for the update, Stay tuned with us either on Twitter or on Facebook and we will post it in the minute it's released.

New iPhone 4s Coming by End of September?

CanalMX reports that Apple is set to release a newly version of the iPhone 4 that do not have the malfunction of the reception by the end of September. The iPhone 4 users were reporting a lot of issues as antenna issues which experienced when holding the device. Also users complained about a proximity sensor glitch which may not be fixed in iOS 4.1. Below is the Google Translation from Spanish,
He [Marco Quatorze, Telcel's Director of Value Added Services] also said that as of September 30 Telcel will be available in new devices that do not have the malfunction of the reception and explained that the company will have several options to make changes from one phone to another flawed not to take: “If the previous plan is over, you will need to hire a new change for iPhone 4. If, for example, already has one and take three months for payment, change the cell with a re-employment and takes into account the previous time, so instead of paying 24 months, only done in 21. “

The question of the case beyond the phone company that we hire, it is worth evaluating whether to purchase the first version of iPhone4 with all its flaws, or wait a month to be available the new version promises to vindicate the reputation of this controversial but attractive device, though no doubt there will be many users who are not willing to lose this dream so long Smartphone.
Last month Apple offered free bumpers for iPhone 4 users but it seems like a mistake as it damages the iPhone. Also, the iPhone 4 bumpers program ends by end of September, so is that an evidence for the truth of this story? But is that the only way to fix iPhone 4 issues? to make a new one! [via 9to5mac]

Apple Spokeswoman: No Fix for Proximity Sensor Issues Patched to iOS 4.1

When the iPhone 4 was launched, there were a series of issues. First, and the most important is antenna issues when you hold the iPhone, but also iPhone 4 owners complained of a proximity sensor issues that results hanging up of calls or mysterious button presses that would mute or invite another person into the call. There were some reports that proximity sensor issues will be fixed in the final iOS 4.1 release which expected next week.
Steve Jobs last month said the sensor problem would be fixed in a future software update, but this hasn’t yet appeared. Apple Australia spokeswoman Fiona Martin has acknowledged that the company has yet fix the proximity sensor issue, but iPhone 4 users will be surprised when they download the update, only to find the issues are still there.
